2018

The Werner Prize is awarded annually to promising young Swiss scientists or scientists working in Switzerland under 40 to recognize “their outstanding research in the field of chemistry.”

The American Physical Society (APS) is the world’s largest organization of physicists. It was founded in 1899 with the aim to “to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics”.

Paul Dyson receives the European Sustainable Chemistry Award

at the 7th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress in Liverpool. Congratulations !

The German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker or GDCh) is a learned society and professional association. It was founded in 1949 to represent the interests of German chemists in both Germany and internationally.

Microscopy Today is the official, bimonthly magazine of the Microscopy Society of America (MSA), published since 1992. Each year, the magazine awards ten innovations that “will make microscopy and microanalysis more powerful, more productive, and easier to accomplish.”

The ERC Starting Grants are given each year to researchers of any nationality and in any field of research with 2-7 years of experience since their PhD, with a promising scientific track record and an excellent research proposal.

Professor Kumar Varoon Agrawal at EPFL’s Institute of Chemical Science and Engineering has been awarded a Young Membrane Scientist Award from the North American Membrane Society.

Professor Xile Hu, an expert in catalysis at EPFL’s Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering, has been awarded the 2017 National Latsis Prize.

Professor Anders Hagfeldt has been named Docteur honoris causa of the Université Paris-Didérot (“Paris 7”).

The Rusnano Group has awarded Professor Michael Grätzel their annual Prize.

Professor Michael Grätzel has been named Doctor honoris causa of the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay.

After winning the Air Liquide challenge in November, Professor Kevin Sivula received the Prize during a visit by senior representatives of the Air Liquide group to EPFL.

Ulrich Lorenz and Jeremy Luterbacher from Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering have been awarded Starting Grants from the European Research Council.

EPFL Chemist Professor Xile Hu has won the “2017 Tajima Prize” from The International Society of Electrochemistry for his work in electrocatalysis.

Prof. Grätzel, director of LPI, is being honored for “transcendent merits in development of low cost and efficient solar cells, known as ‘Grätzel cells”, for which Grätzel is world-famous.

Professor Xile Hu has won the “2017 Organic Letters Outstanding Publication of the Year Lectureship Award” from the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry and Organic Letters.

His winning project is titled: “chromo-SUMMIT: Decoding dynamic chromatin signaling by single-molecule multiplex detection.”

He is considered to be one of the most creative and innovative experts in the field of chemical biology.

Has been awarded for his “significant contributions to the advancement of materials and methods for photoelectrochemical energy conversion”.

Hu is known for his work in developing catalysts from earth-abundant elements for use in chemical transformations of synthesis, energy, and sustainability.
