Its TOF technology delivers exceptional mass accuracy, resolution (20,000 not dependent on spectral acquisition rate) and dynamic range across a wide range of concentrations. It can be operated in a brad mass range mode (m/z 25 to 20,000). The instrument is interfaced with Agilent 1290 Infinite UHPLC modules and equipped with the Dual Jetstream ESI and APPI photoionization sources.

LCQFleet (Thermo fisher)

LCQFleet The LCQFleet Ion Trap mass spectrometer provides high sensitivity MS at fast cycle time measurements, and a fast positive/negative switching ionization mode. Enhanced and zoom scan allow better resolution and reliable charge states recognition, and the Selected Ion Monitoring (SIM) mode is used for target compound analysis. The instrument can be operated in Full-scan MS/MS mode, in Selected Reaction Monitoring (SRM) for quantitative experiments and MSn for multi-stage MS experiments to probe the structure of ions.
The LCQFleet is equipped with the Ion Max-S API source and interfaced with a Dionex Ultimate 3000 UPLC system. This instrument is open-access after a mandatory training provided by the service. Open-access is restricted to EPFL members.

TSQ8000 Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS (Thermo fisher)

TSQ8000 The TSQ8000 Triple Quadrupole GC-MS/MS instrument is paired with the Thermo scientific TRACE 1300 GC and the autosampler AI1310. The Triple quadrupole can work in Full scan, SIM, SRM and product ion-scan modes. It offers an extractable EI ion source with a vacuum probe interlock to remove entire source without venting. The mass range us 1.2-1200 m/z, and scan speed up to 11000 u/sec. Electron Energy of the source is adjustable from 0 to 150 eV. Transfer line temperature goes up to 400°C.  Data are processed using XCalibur and TraceFinder Software for GC-MS quantification, as well as the NIST libraries for compound identification.
El causes much fragmentation than Cl: the sample is bombarded with electrons, causing the ejection of one or more electrons according to the following equation:

M + e       →    M+ + 2e

Cl causes less fragmentation than El. The reagent gas is ammonia and the most common ions detected are the protonated species and ammonium ion adducts.

NH3 + e       →          NH4+ + 2e

NH4+ + M     →           NH3 + [M+H]+

NH4+ + M     →           [M+NH4]+

The TRACE 1300 GC is equipped with a Capillary column VF-5ms (5% phenyl-methyl 95% dimethylpolysiloxane column, 0.25mm x 30 m) suitable for a wide range of applications: alcohols, amines, aromatic hydrocarbons, drugs, esters, flavors, glycerides, halogenated compounds, hydrocarbons, organic acids, pesticides, phenols, polymers, steroids, sterols, sugars, sulfur compounds…GC is the method of choice for the separation of volatile and low-mass range components.
